The automatic transmission shifter repair process starts with removing the center console. Workers must disconnect the automatic transmission shift lever cable end from the automatic transmission shift lever before releasing the tab on the automatic transmission shift lever cable which allows for removal of the cable from the automatic transmission shift lever housing. First disconnect the electrical connector before removing the automatic transmission shift lever by untightening its four nuts. For installation, position the automatic transmission shift lever then fasten it with four nuts which should be tightened to 12 Nm (106 lb-in). Energize the electrical connector while verifying proper locking of automatic transmission shift lever cable tabs and attaching the end of automatic transmission shift lever cable onto the ball stud. Use your finger or a screwdriver to press the automatic transmission shift lever cable into its bracket until it clicks before checking for proper lock by pulling the cable backward. Confirm proper installation of the automatic transmission shift lever cable end on the ball stud through another cable pull-back. The automatic transmission shift lever cable installation occurs inside the automatic transmission shift lever housing followed by selecting the correct position for the automatic transmission shift lever cable end on the automatic transmission shift lever. The last step includes putting back the center console while possibly readjusting the automatic transmission shift lever cable.

Install the selector lever cable in the selector lever housing and connect the selector lever cable end to the selector lever, then reinstall the center console and adjust the selector lever cable as needed.
