Service of the dual converter Y-pipe requires starting with raising and supporting the vehicle. First disconnect heated oxygen and catalyst monitor sensors before you take out and discard the catalytic converter-to-exhaust manifold nuts and loosen the clamp. The LH converter needs to be extracted from its position. The service process for the RH converter starts by taking out bolts and flag nuts then using a jack stand to support the muffler for safe detachments of isolators before eliminating bolt and isolator cap while extracting the RH converter. The threads of sensors require anti-seize lubricant prior to installation after which heated oxygen and catalyst monitor sensors need to be removed if needed. The fasteners need to stay loose until the whole assembly is constructed then start tightening from the front of the vehicle. The receding steps from removal will bring the installation process to a finish.

The first step for servicing muffler and tailpipe begins with raising and supporting the vehicle. Detach the isolator after loosening the clamp then take away either the resonator when present or the extension pipe. Begin by taking off the four nuts followed by disconnecting the two stabilizer bar brackets until the bar suspends from the links. A suitable jack stand should support the muffler before removing its isolators. You should remove both bolts and flag nuts from the system. When routing the muffler outlet over the rear axle keep away from the axle boots since they are vulnerable to damage. The muffler and tailpipe assembly removal is followed by the installation process which should be done in reverse order.

You should start with servicing or repairing the Y-pipe dual converter when the vehicle remains in NEUTRAL position on a hoist. First disconnect both heated oxygen and catalyst monitor sensors before discarding the catalytic converter-to-exhaust manifold nuts and loosening the clamp. Follow proper protocol for the LH converter while you separate and remove it since damage can occur to manifold outlet flare or converter inlet flare or converter studs. Use suitable jack stands to suspend the muffler before removing bolt and flax nuts along with isolator cap from RH converter. Heat-resistant sensors for oxygen and catalyst monitoring should be taken off if needed while applying anti-seize lubrication to their threaded components before placing them back. The fastener tightening process must start at the vehicle front while all components remain uninstalled. The outlet flare from the manifold requires cleaning before application of new fasteners along with gaskets to both parts. The installation order begins with tightening the RH lower catalytic converter-to-exhaust manifold nut followed by the RH upper catalytic converter-to-exhaust manifold nut then the transmission mount hanger bolt followed by the exhaust clamp nut and finally the LH outer catalytic converter-to-exhaust manifold nut LH inner catalytic converter-to-exhaust manifold nut and complete with catalytic converter-to-muffler bolts.

Clean the mating surfaces of the inlet pipe and catalytic converter.
