Oil Pan

Cleaning operations must precede any work on an oil pan to stop contaminants from accessing and destroying oil or coolant passages. Engine failure could result from this contamination. The service starts with removal of the starter and subsequent removal of the dual converter Y-pipe. You should drain your engine oil using the drain plug before removing its accompanying gasket. Start by removing the inspection cover after taking out the pin-type retainer with bolt first then pulling out the oil pan-to-transaxle bolts and seventeen oil pan bolts to detach the oil pan. Clean the mating surfaces of the oil pan rear seal through use of a metal surface cleaner before discarding the seal. A new application of sealer must occur if the oil pan installation exceeds four minutes. After cleaning the oil pan sealing areas, apply sealant to them before installing the new rear oil pan seal. The mating surface requires a bead of silicone gasket and sealer. Repeat the oil pan installation while starting all bolts and tightening each one to 10 Nm (89 inch lbs) according to the specified order. After installing the three oil pan-to-transaxle bolts apply force of 45 Nm (33 ft. lbs). Reinstall the oil pan drain plug along with its gasket by tightening it to 26 Nm (19 ft. lbs). The last steps include installing the starter and dual converter Y-pipe while adding new clean engine oil to the vehicle.

The first step for oil pan maintenance and repairing includes thorough cleaning to avoid motor failure from foreign substances. Beginning the procedure starts with removing the starter and dual converter Y-pipe from their positions. The removal of engine oil begins by extracting both drain plug and gasket. Detach the inspection cover by first removing the pin-type retainer with bolt and then the three oil pan-to-transaxle bolts and seventeen oil pan bolts which allow you to remove the oil pan. Use a metal surface cleaner to scrub and clean up the mating surfaces before disposing of the oil pan rear seal. You must remove the sealer when the oil pan exceeds a four-minute installation period because reapplication is needed. First apply silicone gasket and sealer to the rear main bearing cap and continue with new rear seal installation at the oil pan sealing areas after clean treatment with sealant. Follow the specified order when installing and tightening the oil pan bolts to 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.). After installing the three oil pan-to-transaxle bolts at 45 Nm (33 ft. lbs.), proceed to install the inspection cover and its bolt as well as the pin-type retainer. Install the oil pan drain plug with gasket which requires a torque of 26 Nm (19 ft. lbs.). After that complete the reinstallation of dual converter Y-pipe and starter before refilling the engine with new clean engine oil.

Ensure the vehicle is in NEUTRAL and positioned on a hoist.

Position the oil pan and start the bolts, tightening them in the specified sequence.

Reinstall the drain plug, the starter motor, and fill the engine with clean engine oil.
