On this engine, in order to remove the oil pan, you have to remove the engine but, for the 2006 and later models, the left side engine mount can be disconnected and only the left side of the engine has to be raised. Starters by lowering the level of the engine oil and then removing debris on the oil drain plug. It is advisable to change the oil filter before re-filling the engine with the oil. Remove the engine oil dipstick and the oil pan mounting bolts, then carefully separate the oil pan from the engine block using a large rubber mallet or a wood block and a hammer to avoid damaging the sealing surfaces. For installation, use a gasket scraper or putty knife to remove all traces of old gasket material and sealant from the pan and engine block, taking care not to gouge either surface. Clean the mating surfaces with lacquer thinner or acetone, ensuring the bolt holes in the engine block are clean. Apply a bead of RTV sealant to the four corner seams where the rear seal retainer meets the engine block and where the front cover meets the engine block. Carefully position the oil pan against the engine block and install the bolts finger tight, ensuring the gaskets haven't shifted, then tighten the bolts in a spiral pattern starting from the center. Install the subframe bolts and tighten them, then complete the remaining steps in reverse order, remembering to refill the engine with oil before starting it. Finally, start the engine and check for oil leaks at the oil pan, driving the vehicle and checking again.

Remove the steering shaft U-joint pinch bolt, install an engine support fixture, and remove the engine mounts. Place a floor jack under the front of the subframe, make reference marks along the subframe and unibody structure, remove the subframe mounting bolts, and lower the assembly approximately two inches. Remove the engine oil dipstick and the oil pan mounting bolts, then carefully separate the oil pan from the engine block using a large rubber mallet or a wood block and a hammer to avoid damaging the sealing surfaces. For installation, use a gasket scraper or putty knife to remove all traces of old gasket material and sealant from the pan and engine block, taking care not to gouge either surface. Clean the mating surfaces with lacquer thinner or acetone, ensuring the bolt holes in the engine block are clean. Apply a bead of RTV sealant to the four corner seams where the rear seal retainer meets the engine block and where the front cover meets the engine block. Carefully position the oil pan against the engine block and install the bolts finger tight, ensuring the gaskets haven't shifted, then tighten the bolts in a spiral pattern starting from the center. Install the subframe bolts and tighten them, then complete the remaining steps in reverse order, remembering to refill the engine with oil before starting it. Finally, start the engine and check for oil leaks at the oil pan, driving the vehicle and checking again.
