Water Pump

Service and repair of the water pump starts with lifting and supporting the vehicle and draining the cooling system. To start work on the water pump you must take off the splash shield followed by disconnecting the heater water hose from the pump bottom then eliminating the radiator lower tube bolt. Drop the vehicle before you remove the air cleaner assembly and the battery together with its tray. You should begin by removing the water pump belt and the radiator upper front tube bolt and completing the upper radiator hose and engine vent hose separation as well as the transmission 10-pin connector removal. Detach the radiator bypass hose assembly before disassembling the thermostat housing and putting it to the side. A total of three bolts must be removed in order to separate the water pump unit. First detach the connector hose and then take out the water pump from its position. When installed the connector hose must be joined to the new water pump which should be positioned afterwards mounting bolts must be tightened through two stages beginning at 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.) and finishing with an additional 90°. You must install the thermostat housing on the water pump hose after which you should position the radiator bypass hose assembly before reconnecting the transmission 10-pin connector, upper radiator hose, and engine vent hose. The installation process begins with the radiator upper front cooling tube bolt followed by the water pump belt installation. Then attach the battery along with its tray followed by the air cleaner assembly. The maintenance process requires you to raise and support the vehicle while installing both the lower cooling tube bolt and connecting the heater water hose to the water pump base before reinstalling the splash shield. Before closing the vehicle complete the process of filling the engine cooling system.

Draining of the engine cooling system should be the initial step before repairing or servicing the water pump. Begin by removing the bolt from the generator strut bracket followed by loosening the retaining bolts of the water pump pulley before taking out the generator. You should remove all bolts from the water pump pulley before detaching the water bypass hose and pulling out the pulley with the water pump. Start by unwiring the crankshaft sensor from its stud after which you will remove the bolt and the belt idler along with the bolt and the belt tensioner. The end step of replacement is removing the eight bolts and four studs and the water pump from the vehicle. After cleaning the sealing areas of the pump housing reverse the installation order of steps when fitting a new water pump.

The first task to service and repair a water pump requires draining the engine cooling system. Begin by taking out the water pump pulley and later extract the bolt and nut for relocating the roll restrictor bracket. Uninstall the generator first while removing the belt idler pulley and then move on to unfasten the water pump pulley bolts. Remove the water pump inlet hose and crankshaft position sensor before uninstalling water pump bolts while cleaning all sealing surfaces. Follow this installation order to begin: Install the water pump first before tightening bolts numbered 1-7 to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.) then follow by tightening bolts numbered 8-12 to 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.). The crankshaft position sensor needs connecting with the water pump inlet hose before adding the belt idler pulley and generator. Set the roll restrictor bracket in position while you install the bolt along with the nut and then install the water pump pulley. You should complete the refill process of your engine cooling system at the end of the procedure.

Install the bolt, nut, and roll restrictor and bracket, tightening the nut to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.) and the bolt to 47 Nm (35 ft. lbs.).

Loosen the four coolant pump pulley bolts and remove the accessory drive belt.

Disconnect the generator B+ cable and the voltage regulator electrical connector.

Install the support bracket with the nut and bolt, followed by the accessory drive shaft tensioner and its bolt.

Reverse the removal procedure.
