The filter needs to be installed correctly to avoid transmission internal damage so ensure the red arrow points toward the transmission from the transmission fluid cooler. Implement rubber hoses or steel tubing only when their bending angle stays under 60°. You should clamp down the rubber hose filter end before connecting the other end of the filter to the hose. Mark the transmission fluid pan with clean spots as well as place a sticker there to show the inline filter exists. Associate the transmission with new automatic transmission fluid while performing operational checks followed by a leak test of the filter.

Fasten the new transmission fluid filter with screws while tightening them to 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.). Reinstall the transmission fluid pan magnet while you mount the pan with its gasket using loose screw installation followed by crisscross tightening to 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.). Secure each HO2S wire connector retainer to the transmission fluid pan rails followed by sensor connection. Secure the drain plug tightly at 26 Nm (19 foot pounds). To remove the fluid level indicator plug you need to hold the drain plug with a wrench while using a 3/16-Allen key for the removal process. Conduct the fluid level test as the final step.

The installation of a new in-line fluid filter becomes necessary when serving the transmission fluid in-line filter system because the vehicle had an in-line filtration system and underwent overhaul. The installation of a new in-line fluid filter kit becomes necessary when the vehicle entered the service without an in-line filter system. Transmissions that lack internal parts do not require addition of an in-line filter or filter kit installation. Ford-authorizes a filter for remanufactured transmission use with its installation procedures. The vehicle should be placed on a hoist system while in NEUTRAL gear. A rubber hose section should be cut down to create space for the transmission fluid in-line filter installation. The filter operates with a bypass valve and its red arrow indicates fluid flow direction so you must install the filter in the fluid cooler return line with the red arrow aimed at the transmission and away from the fluid cooler. The wrong installation process may cause harm to transmission internal components. Installation of rubber hoses and steel tubing should be limited to 60 degrees or less when they enter the filter. Fasten a clamp on one filter end before connecting it to rubber hose and fastening both clamp sections around the hose ends. Place the sticker on display to indicate in-line filtering equipment after cleaning the transmission fluid pan observation area. To complete the procedure you should add new automatic transmission fluid into the transmission before verifying proper operation and inspecting the filter for any leakage.

Cut a section of the upper transmission fluid cooler hose.

Install the new filter and secure it with screws tightened to 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.).

Clean a visible section of the transmission fluid pan and affix a sticker indicating the vehicle is equipped with an in-line filter.

Do not install an in-line filter or filter kit.

Disconnect the connectors and remove the sensor wire retaining clip from the right side of the transmission pan rail, then remove the connector from the front of the transmission pan rail and position it out of the way.

Install the drain plug with a new gasket, tightening it to 26 Nm (19 lb-ft), and check the transmission fluid level. Use a 3/16-inch Allen key to remove the drain plug if necessary.

Position the vehicle on a hoist in NEUTRAL.

Use the supplied in-line transmission fluid filter.
