Service and repair of the fuel level sensor starts with removing the fuel pump module while avoiding both smoking and open flames because flammable mixtures carry an ignition risk. Record the course of the fuel level sensor wire before removing it from its position with the fuel pump module wire harness. First, remove the heat shrink tube over the electrical connector before disconnecting it. To access the fuel level sensor, you should remove its attached screw before lifting it free. Place the fuel level sensor wire into the center of the fuel pump module when installing the component. Gasoline car owners should position both sensor wires behind the metal fuel level sensor plate while keeping the grounding eyelet on the front side before hooking the sensor onto the module with a screw. You should position flexible fuel vehicles' sensor wires one behind the sensor and the other along its left side with the grounding eyelet set on the front side before securing them as mentioned. Fasten the wire into its designated slot of the module. To install this component, first apply the heat shrink tube over the wire harness before connecting the electrical connector, then heat it with a heat gun while avoiding open flames since they may ignite fuel residue. After sliding the fuel level sensor wire around the fuel pump module wire harness, it must be put back under the module to avoid float arm interference with the fuel gauge sending unit.

The first step for fuel level sensor maintenance requires removal of the fuel pump module under smoke-free conditions because of the explosion hazard posed by combustible vapor mixtures. Note down how the fuel level sensor wire routes itself because this information will help install it correctly. The service procedure starts with removing the heat shrink tube from the electrical connector and then detaching the connector. Next step is to separate the fuel level sensor wire from the fuel pump module wire harness. Pull out the screw then raise the fuel level sensor from its place. When installing the sensor position its wire in the middle of the fuel pump module. To install the fuel level sensor in gasoline vehicles both wires should pass to the rear of the sensor plate so the grounding eyelet stays on the sensor front side. Attach the sensor to the fuel pump module then apply the screw through the grounding eyelet before tightening the screw. Flexible fuel vehicles require both fuel level sensor wires to be routed behind the sensor and along the left side with the grounding eyelet placed on the front side. Secure the sensor onto the fuel pump module while using the screw to fasten it before placing the wire inside the module. The wire harness requires the heat shrink tube to slide over it before connecting the electrical connector through heat gun application instead of open flame usage. The fuel level sensor wire needs to wrap around the fuel pump module wire harness to avoid interfering with the fuel gauge sending unit float arm and the fuel pump module and fuel tank must be restored in their proper positions.

Ensure both fuel level sensor wires are positioned behind the metal fuel level sensor plate, with the grounding eyelet on the front side.
