Occupational safety glasses must be worn during air bag control module servicing because of the potential deployment hazard. System functions depend greatly on the exact position of the restraints control module (RCM). Visual inspection of the RCM retaining bracket should be performed after crashes that harm the center tunnel area followed by bracket or mounting replacement if any damage is present. It is essential to return the RCM mounting zone to its original state while refraining from using memory saver devices to minimize personal injury possibilities. The correct tightening torque for retaining RCM bolts should be 12 Nm (9 lb-ft). Electronic modules made by manufacturers are vulnerable to static electricity because the resulting effects lead to damage. Using the RCM fuse to turn on ignition activation will lead to warning lamp illumination while keeping the SRS free from faults. The vehicle should return to the customer only after confirming that the installed RCM contains the right software to avoid erroneous DTCs and ensuring the SRS operates correctly without faults. The RCM can be uninstalled by activating the parking brake first followed by setting the transmission in position 1 when shifter buttons are positioned on floor level before de-energizing the system. Begin the process by taking out the pin-type retainer and carpet patch from the vehicle. Vehicles using a column shifter need the ashtray bracket and its screws to be unscrewed from under the instrument panel. Remove the storage compartment section from the vehicle and disconnect its power point electrical plug. First remove the floor console finish panel before removing the right-hand side RCM bolts and disconnecting both large and small RCM electrical connectors then taking out the left-hand side RCM bolt. The RCM installation requires positioning the unit before securing the two right-side bolts at 12 Nm (9 lb-ft). After installing the left side bolt consumers must position the connector assurance lever entirely backward before hooking up the large RCM electrical connector. The proper connector alignment prevents damage while gently pushing it until the click sounds followed by use of the assurance lever for securing. Vehicle owners should replace the ashtray bracket using screws when their car uses a column shifter whereas floor shifter owners must reconnect the storage compartment power point followed by proper alignment and installation of the storage compartment and floor console finish panel. End the procedure by placing the transmission into PARK then releasing the parking brake and arranging the carpet patch followed by pin-type retainer installation prior to system power-up.
