Safety glasses must be worn whenever you service the air bag control module because accidental deployment poses injury risks. The correct orientation of the restraints control module (RCM) is necessary for functional system operation yet inspections must always check the mounting and bracket for any damage when the vehicle's center tunnel area suffered collision damage before making an RCM replacement decision. The RCM mounting zone needs its original state restored while memory saver devices must be skipped to decrease personal injuries. The proper tightening torque value for the RCM retaining bolts stands at 12 Nm (9 lb-ft). The electronic modules within vehicles show an adverse reaction when exposed to static electricity since this leads to component damage. The RCM fuse removal while the ignition is on causes the air bag warning lamp to turn on but this normal condition does not indicate any fault. An accurate RCM installation must be confirmed to avoid issuing incorrect diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) while a complete and fault-free SRS operation must be established before the vehicle returns to the customer. You can detach the RCM by putting the transmission in position 1 and using the parking brake for vehicles with floor shifter models then proceed with depowering the system and removing both pin-type retainers and carpet patch followed by pulling out the ashtray and bracket for vehicles with column shifters. Unplug the storage compartment along with its electrical cable before taking out the floor console finish panel. From the right-hand side of the RCM remove two bolts to separate and disconnect big and small electronic connectors while also removing the bolt from the left-hand side for RCM removal. Perform RCM alignment by first placing the component in position followed by right-hand side bolt installation at 12 Nm (9 lb-ft) torque specifications and then connect the left-hand side bolt at 12 Nm (9 lb-ft) torque while attaching the small electrical connector. Connect the large electrical connector only after making sure the connector position assurance lever is all the way in and aligning it correctly to stop any damage before pushing it in hearing the audible click then drawing the lever to finalize the connector connection. The ashtray bracket assembly with its screws gets installed after reinstallation of the ashtray when the vehicle has a column shifter. The installation of vehicles with floor shifter requires power point connector reattachment to the storage compartment and final installation of the floor console finish panel. To complete the procedure start by placing the transmission into the PARK position then let go of the parking brake and apply the carpet patch along with the pin-type retainer before re-enabling the system power.

Always tighten the fasteners to the specified torque to ensure proper operation.
