Before servicing front impact severity sensors inspect the restraints control module (RCM) and impact sensor mounting areas for any crash-caused deformation while restoring damaged sections to their original configuration and installing new sensors together with a new RCM regardless of deployment history to lessen potential injuries or fatalities. The air bag warning indicator will activate after removing the suitable RCM fuse during an ON ignition state. You must validate the Supplemental Restraint System's functioning as well as its absence of faults before delivering the vehicle to the customer. First turn off power to the SRS system then cut the electrical connection of the front impact severity sensor. Proper restraint system operation will only be possible when you fasten every RCM and impact sensor component to its required torque specifications. When both the bolt and front impact severity sensor are removed, the installer should secure the sensor at 11 Nm (97 lb-in) for installation. The removal process should end by reactivating the SRS system.

The servicing procedure for C-pillar side impact sensors starts by removing SRS depowering to disable accidental air bag activation. As a first step remove the rear door scuff plate along with separating the rear door weather strip from its mounting points. Winding the safety belt webbing should be checked before breaking down the second row retractor anchor bolt because the 40 Nm (30 lb-ft) torque wrench should be used after reinstallation. To reach the side impact sensor at the C-pillar position and install properly you must pull out the quarter trim panel while carefully remembering the sensor's locating tab position. The C-pillar mating contact points need cleaning from foreign substances before removing the side impact sensor bolt and tightening it to 11 Nm (8 lb-ft) while installing it. To remove the sensor disconnect its electrical connector after which you can install a new sensor by performing the removal procedure in reverse order. The SRS repowering process must include tightening all fasteners for the restraints control module along with impact sensors to their specified torque values for proper restraint system operation.

First depower the system.

Restore them to their original configuration, replacing the RCM and sensors regardless of air bag deployment status.

Disconnect the electrical connector.

11 Nm (97 lb-in).

Tighten the bolt to 11 Nm (8 lb-ft).
