Axle Shaft, Rear Driver Side

The service and repair of Ford 9.75-Inch Ring Gear axle shaft requires first lifting and supporting the vehicle and then removing the wheel and tire components together with the differential housing cover to drain lubricating oil. The next step requires uninstalling rear brake drums together with the differential pinion shaft after removing the lock bolt and extracting the shaft. While replacing the U-washers through axle shaft inboard movement you must avoid breaking the rubber O-rings which fit inside U-washer grooves. Proceed to remove both axle shafts while you protect the wheel bearing oil seal from damage during the extraction procedure. To install the wheel bearing oil seal use Premium Long-Life Grease XG-1-C together with an equivalent which meets Ford specification ESA-M1C75-B and lubricate its lip before installing both axle shafts while ensuring the seal stays intact. Position U-washers onto the button areas of axle shafts followed by extention of each shaft outside the vehicle. When a new pinion shaft lock bolt is unavailable users should apply Threadlock and Sealer EOAZ-19554-AA or equivalent material that fulfills Ford standard WSK-M2G351-A5 to the bolt threads before installation while lining up the hole with the case lock bolt hole and using a new lock bolt for securing. Finish the repair by replacing the rear brake drums followed by installation of the differential housing cover together with 2.4 liters (5.5 pints) SAE 75W-140 High Performance Rear Axle Lubricant F1TZ-19580-B or equivalent WSL-M2C192-A meeting Ford specification and finally placing the tire and wheel assembly together with vehicle descent.

Be cautious not to damage the rubber O-ring in the axle shaft groove while removing the U-washer; push the axle shaft inward to facilitate this.

The bolts should be tightened to 133 Nm (99 ft. lbs.) for both SRW and DRW vehicles.

Ensure that the torque specifications remain consistent for both SRW and DRW vehicles.

Inspect the rear axle shaft gasket for damage and replace it with a new gasket if necessary, and check the axle shaft for cracks around the bolt holes.
