Axle Shaft Assembly, Rear Passenger Side

The service procedure for rear axle shafts starts by placing the vehicle in NEUTRAL position and hoisting it for access. Start by detaching the disc brake caliper through anchor bolt unscrewing while sustaining the components with mechanics wire to protect the brake hose. The installation process requires caliper torque to reach 110 Nm at 81 ft.lb. The rear axle wheel end nut requires replacement with a new one before tightening it to 200 Nm (148 ft. lbs.) through continuous rotation because this is a torque prevailing design nut that produces incorrect torque readings leading to bearing failure. Removal of the anti-lock sensor bolt should be followed by tightening the component to 14 Nm (10 ft. lbs.) before reinstalling. A suitable hub remover allows you to gently press the axle shaft until it becomes free from the hub, and then you can take out the brake disc screw and brake disc for reinstallation at 21 Nm (16 ft. lbs.) torque. The hub requires its four bolts to be removed together with the component before reinstallation where each bolt needs torque to 120 Nm (89 ft. lbs.). Using a prybar to gradually extract the axle shaft from the axle components will allow you to remove it. New circlips must be installed whenever you take out the axle shaft while beginning at one groove end and working the circlip across the axle shaft to stop its expansion. The reverse process should be used to finish the procedure.
