A 2.5L vehicle starting motor service process starts with hoisting the vehicle into NEUTRAL position while disconnecting the battery ground cable. Follow the next step by first removing five bolts that attach with the pin-type retainer and right-hand splash shield then return the bolt torques back to 9 Nm (80 lb-in). Follow these steps for the reinstallation of the starter solenoid wire by disconnecting the nut while tightening it to 5 Nm (44 lb-in). The starter solenoid battery cable nut requires removal for starter motor solenoid terminal cover and cable detachment before securing these connections to 12 Nm (106 lb-in). By removing the ground wire nut you should set this ground wire aside before securement at 25 Nm (18 lb-ft) during reinstallation. After removing both stud bolts and the starter motor you can reinstall the bolts to 35 Nm (26 lb-ft) while following the exact removal process to finish installation.

The procedure to maintain starter motors starts with placing the vehicle in NEUTRAL gear while hoisting it in the air. Follow this procedure to disconnect the battery cable ground connection while also unfastening the starter solenoid nut before tightening it to 5 Nm (44 lb-in). During installation the starter solenoid terminal cover and cables need to be tightened to 12 Nm (9 lb-ft). Separate the wiring harness retainer from its position then lay the wiring harness to the side. The ground stator nut gets removed before setting aside the strap while maintaining a torque of 25 Nm (18 lb-ft) when replacement happens. Begin by taking off the two starter motor studs but tighten the upper and lower starter motor studs first with your fingers before securing the upper bolt at 35 Nm (26 lb-ft) and the lower bolt at 35 Nm (26 lb-ft). Complete the installation by executing the reverse steps of the removal procedure.

Remove the two starter motor stud bolts, installing the upper and lower bolts finger-tight before tightening both to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft).

Take off the starter motor solenoid wire nut and set the wire aside.
