2000 Ford Expedition Timing Cover Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the timing cover on 2000 Ford Expedition?
A: Service and repair of the timing cover starts with disconnecting the battery ground cable while also removing both valve covers and the radiator and water pump. The first step requires to lift the vehicle and access its components before undoing bolts while setting the power steering pump off to the side. The Crankshaft Position (CKP) sensor electrical connector needs to be disconnected so you can drain engine oil by removing the oil pan drain plug. First remove all necessary bolts then drop the vehicle after which you will extract the front crankshaft seal followed by the (A) bolt and (B) belt idler pulley. Detach the engine front cover from the front cover to cylinder block dowel after removing all remaining bolts and stud bolts. Engine front cover must have a sealant and cleansing of the sealing area with WSE-M513392-A or equivalent meeting Ford specification WSE-M513392-A followed by drying until all moisture disappears or for four minutes, whichever takes longer, in order to avoid future oil leakage. Apply Silicone Gasket F7AZ-19554-EA belonged to Ford WSE-M46323-A4 specification across the cylinder head to block surface and oil pan to cylinder block surface. Stem the engine front cover onto its dowels and place the front bolts slightly loose. Tighten the front cover bolts through two stages: Tighten fasteners 1-7 to 20 - 30 Nm (15 - 22 ft. lbs.) and complete Stage 2 to 40 - 55 Nm (29 - 40 ft. lbs.) using fasteners 6-15 as the target bolts. First position the (A) belt idler pulley and install the (B) bolt, then equally install a fresh crankshaft front oil seal. After raising the vehicle again tighten the front bolts through two procedures: begin with 20 Nm (15 ft. lbs. torque) followed by another 60 degrees of bolt rotation. Safely connect the CKP sensor electrical connector while positioning the power steering pump for installation apart from avoiding the front lower hole. Then fasten the bolts. Place the oil pan drain plug followed by lowering the vehicle while putting back the valve covers. Fill the engine with Motor Oil XO-5W30 QSP SAE 5W-30 Super Premium or a comparable oil type with Ford WSS-M2C153-G specification while also reinstalling the water pump followed by the radiator before completing the procedure by reconnecting the battery ground cable.
