2000 Ford Ranger Brake Disc Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair the Brake Disc on 2000 Ford Ranger?
A: The front disc brake caliper anchor plate needs removing as the first step for brake rotor/disc maintenance. The service on brake disc requires removal for all 4x4 vehicles. The servicing process begins with 4x2 vehicles by taking out their hub grease cap and followed by removing the cotter pin and then the nut retainer and spindle nut and front wheel outer bearing retainer washer before removing the outer front wheel bearing and brake disc and hub. The workplace provides wheel hub mount brake lathe systems based on the manufacturer's instructions to surface brake rotors on 4x2 vehicles because resurfacing requires operators to remove wheel hub grease seals and front wheel bearings. 4x4 vehicles require installing the brake disc onto the wheel hub followed by using Metal Brake Parts Cleaner F3AZ-19579-SA or another equivalent cleaning product. The maintenance process entails clean, inspection then lubrication of 4x2 front wheel bearings with Premium Long-Life Grease XG-1-C or -K or its equivalent that satisfies Ford specification ESA-M1C75-B. This must be completed before inserting a new wheel hub grease seal followed by inner front wheel bearing then the new wheel hub grease seal. Position the brake disc with hub and apply the outer front wheel bearing alongside the wheel bearing retainer washer before fitting the spindle nut. When replacing the spindle nut start by performing two successive tightening motions on the brake disc and hub followed by nut loosening and re-tightening during the rotation process. The procedure requires 4x2 vehicles to receive the hub grease cap together with the nut retainer and cotter pin. The last installation step involves putting on the front disc brake caliper anchor plate.
