How to service and repair the catalytic converter on 2000 Mercury Cougar?

In order to fix the catalytic converter, take out the heat shield and disregard the TWC with the manifold. Disassemble the oxygen sensor, flange connection and the hanger insulator. Take out the TWC, replace the gaskets and nuts using new ones. Make sure that hangers are well connected and lubricated and then install the heat shield once again.
