2000 Mercury Sable Oil Pan Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the oil pan on 2000 Mercury Sable?
A: Service and repair operations on the oil pan begin by disconnecting the battery ground cable followed by supporting the vehicle. Remove first the engine rear plate along with the starter motor and dual converter Y-pipe followed by engine oil draining before detaching the oil pan by uninstalling its 16 bolts. Apply Ford specification E5B-M2G14-A certified weather strip Adhesive E8AZ-19552-A or its equivalent on the cylinder block assembly gasket mating surface and the oil pan gasket cylinder block assembly mating surface. Also use Silicone Gasket and Sealant F7AZ-19554-EA or its equivalent Ford specification WSE-M4G323-A4 beneath the rear main bearing cap and front cover areas. Two applications of Silicone Gasket and Sealant F7AZ-19554-EA or equivalent WSE-M4G323-A4 Ford standard should be placed at the cylinder block-front cover junctions and the rear main bearing cap-cylinder block junctions. Set the oil pan correctly because weather strip adhesive will create a permanent bond with the surfaces the moment they touch. After position the oil pan gasket begin by tightening the four corner bolts to 12 Nm (9 ft. lbs.) before proceeding to tighten all other bolts from back to front also to 12 Nm (9 ft. lbs.) then recheck the bolts for proper tightening. After placing the rear engine plate along with its bolt install the starter motor and dual converter Y-pipe. Drain the engine of its current oil by lowering the vehicle motor. Then fill it with either Super Premium SAE 5W-30 Motor Oil XO-5W30-QSP or a product complying with Ford specification WSS-M2C153-G. Finally restore the vehicle battery connection and start the motor while allowing it to warm up fully while the cooling fan turns at least one cycle. During the last step you must raise the vehicle after engine shutdown and tighten the oil pan bolts with 12 Nm torque from back to front before inspecting the gasket alignment before lowering the vehicle.
