- Q: How to Service and Repair a Heater Core on 2001 Ford Excursion?A: Service and repair of the heater core begins with draining the radiator then removing heater water hoses from the core using appropriate heater hose coupling methods. You can lower the glove compartment door when you release its stops and detach the panel/floor door vacuum control motor from its vacuum line, unscrew and rotate its lever to disconnect it. Bend the panel/floor door lever gently because it displays brittleness. The removal process requires disconnecting the electrical connector then removing screws from the bracket assembly until it becomes removable. Beneath the heater core cover there are screws which need to be removed while lifting the cover vertically to protect the heater core housing. The heater core needs to be completely extracted from its position before conclusion of the step. Through a reverse order of steps install the component while placing the temperature blend door manually into position so it aligns properly without engaging the electrical system to protect the parts from damage. When putting the cover in place you should first add a gasket between the housing and the cover.
