2001 Ford F-150 Vehicle Speed Sensor Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the Vehicle Speed Sensor on the Turbine Shaft and Output Shaft on 2001 Ford F-150?
A: The servicing and repairing of Turbine Shaft Speed (TSS) and Output Shaft Speed (OSS) sensors must start by removing the drive shaft together with the rear transmission mount nuts. Take care to prevent the back of the transmission from rising too high since contact with the underbody may harm the TSS and OSS sensors. Next proceed by raising the transmission until it comes off the rear crossmember support before you remove the bolts necessary to detach the rear transmission mount. Begin by lowering the transmission to reach the TSS and OSS sensors before removing the TSS by pulling out its bolt installation. The procedure used for clearing out the OSS sensor must be repeated. Before putting the OSS sensor together begin by applying lubrication to its O-ring then fasten it with the bolt. This installation approach should be copied for the TSS sensor following O-ring lubrication before its installation begins. This operation requires attention to the transmission back to avoid excessive height when performing the work. Complete the rear transmission mount installation by first raising the transmission then securing bolts on the mounting then lowering the mount to its position on the rear crossmember support before tightening its nuts. Put the procedure to an end with drive shaft reinstallation.
