2001 Ford Windstar Cruise Control Servo Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the cruise control servo on 2001 Ford Windstar?
A: The cruise control servo servicing procedure begins with disconnection of the battery ground cable. The first step is to push forward the cable end of the speed control actuator which disconnects it from the throttle nailhead. Disassemble the engine air cleaner assembly while disconnecting the speed control servo electrical connector. Dismiss the locking tab and rotate it counterclockwise to remove the screws that hold the speed control servo bracket with the speed control actuator cable cap. Unfasten the speed control actuator cable from the speed control servo pulley by first removing the speed control cable slug and next removing the actuator cable because opening the throttle reduces cable tension. The speed control cable slug gets inserted into the speed control servo pulley slot before the tabs of the speed control actuator cable cap find their corresponding slots on the servo housing while checking the rubber seal remains fully installed. To install, align the cap tabs to the servo housing slots before rotating it clockwise until the locking tab locks. Reattach the speed control servo bracket screws and reconnect the electrical connector. Replacement of the engine air cleaner assembly should be followed by connection of the speed control actuator cable to the throttle nailhead before reattaching the battery ground cable.
