Before removing any camshaft journal cap bolts you must take off the camshaft journal thrust caps to avoid damaging them. Keeping the original positions between cylinder head camshaft journal caps and cylinder heads prevents the mixing of components. Understand the sequence by taking off camshaft journal thrust caps with a soft-faced mallet before the other camshaft journal bolts and caps. Carefully lift out the camshafts. When installing the camshaft bearing caps place them back into their factory-original orientation. Install the camshafts in the cylinder head using Super Premium SAE 5W-20 Motor Oil XO-5W20-QSP or an equivalent oil that fulfills the specification requirements stated by Ford WSS-M2C153-H. Insulate the camshaft journal thrust caps from installation before all camshaft bearing caps are set to prevent damage. Apply lubrication to the bearing surfaces of the camshaft bearing caps then loosely place these caps together with installation bolts. Apply lubrication to the camshaft caps once again and then place them and their bolts in their proper positions without full force. Begin with bolt tightening according to the specified installation order. The installation of new camshafts requires a valve spring-lash adjustment per the specified process. Apply same motor oil to both camshaft lobes and tappet shims. You must position the crankshaft at nine o'clock before camshaft rotation because doing otherwise could harm the valve train assembly. Inspection of camshaft movement needs you to rotate them to detect binding while ensuring that bearing caps are properly aligned and loose bearing cap bolt sequence during retightening.
