2001 Lincoln LS Intake Manifold Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service the upper intake manifold on 2001 Lincoln LS?
A: Service of the upper intake manifold starts by disconnecting the ground cable from the battery while draining the cooling system of the engine. Start by removing both the engine appearance cover together with the air cleaner outlet tube. First disconnect the throttle position (TP) sensor and idle air control (IAC) solenoid electrical connectors from their networking points. Then proceed to remove the accelerator and speed control cables followed by the cable bracket. After removing all bracket bolts the technician disconnects the throttle body hoses which include the coolant hoses and positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) hose and vapor purge hose. Unplug the vacuum tube along with the EGR to exhaust manifold connector nut. Start by removing the cowl vent screen together with the brace and vacuum hoses from their mounting bracket before extracting the bracket while keeping the accelerator and cruise control cables safe to the side. Disembark the differential pressure feedback EGR electrical connector followed by removing the stud and nut before putting the differential pressure feedback EGR transducer on the side. The fuel pressure sensor shield needs removal after disassembly of the retaining bolt and nuts and also requires the vacuum hose separation from both upper intake manifold and the intake manifold tuning valve (IMTV) electrical connector. Start by disconnecting the exhaust vacuum regulator (EVR) through electrical connector and vacuum line removal. After releasing the upper intake support bolt and front intake manifold support bolt the bolts can be removed while taking off the upper intake manifold. Check the gaskets for conditions then determine which ones should be thrown away. To install these components position the upper intake manifold along with its gaskets followed by the fuel pressure sensor shield that needs to be fastened with the nut and bolts. After tightening the upper intake manifold bolts according to the specified order you should install the differential pressure feedback EGR followed by its nut and stud. Eventual installation starts with the support bolt and upper intake support bolt followed by connecting EVR electrical connector with vacuum line, IMTV electrical connector with vacuum hose and vacuum hose to the rear of upper intake manifold. Position the differential pressure feedback EGR electrical connector after which you should position the accelerator and cruise control cables then install the bracket and clip the vacuum hoses into the mounting bucket. The EGR requires attachment to exhaust manifold tube nut and vacuum hose while the installation of brace and cowl vent screen completes the process. Reinstall all throttle body hoses along with their components which encompass coolant hoses as well as PCV hose and vapor purge hose. Secure the cable bracket with bolts while you attach both accelerator and speed control cables followed by connecting the TP sensor and IAC solenoid electrical connectors. The last steps include installation of air cleaner outlet tube followed by engine appearance cover and filling the engine cooling system and reconnecting the battery ground cable.
