2002 Ford Excursion Brake Disc Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to Service and Repair the Brake Disc on F-250 and F-350 4X2 on 2002 Ford Excursion?
A: F-250 and F-350 4X2 models require removal of the disc brake caliper anchor plate as the first step before servicing or repairing the brake rotor/disc. The rotor removal process starts by removing the hub grease cap with its attached cotter pin along with the nut retainer and spindle nut followed by the outer wheel bearing retainer washer and bearing and finishing with the disc brake hub and rotor. The repair manual from Ford recommends performing on-vehicle rotor machining for resurfacing purposes by eliminating both the wheel hub grease seal and the inner wheel bearing. During installation it is essential to clean and inspect front wheel bearings and disc brake hub and rotor while using Metal Brake Parts Cleaner F6AZ-2C410-AB or equivalent. Install a new wheel hub grease seal that is followed by the inner wheel bearing and another new wheel hub grease seal. After that add the wheel bearings with Premium Long-Life Grease XG-1-C or XG-1-K or equivalent material conforming to Ford specification ESA-M1C75-B. Position the disc brake hub together with rotor before you attach the outer wheel bearing followed by an outer bearing retainer washer and a spindle nut. During disc brake hub and rotor rotation you should tighten the spindle nut before releasing it two turns. During rotation of the disc brake hub tighten the spindle nut twice. You should finish the operation by adding the disc brake caliper anchor plate after the nut retainer and cotter pin installation and hub grease cap application.
