2002 Ford Explorer Intake Manifold Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service the intake manifold on 2002 Ford Explorer?
A: The service of the intake manifold requires disconnecting the battery ground cable. Start by removing the air cleaner outlet pipe before disconnecting the accelerator and speed control cables from the throttle body. Position the accelerator cable and speed control cable on separate areas of the bracket that avoid all contact with the intake manifold. The service process begins with disconnecting the routing clips from vacuum hoses and both cables until vacuum hoses can be detached. Disconnection of electrical wires from the Idle Air Control (IAC) valve and Throttle Position (TP) sensor plus the wiring anchor takes place. You must disconnect the EGR vacuum hose as well as the Evaporative Emission (EVAP) canister purge solenoid vapor hose and the EGR tube at the EGR valve. First remove the wiring harness pin-type retainer then carefully twist the spark plug wire boots during the upward pull to avoid damage before marking the spark plug wire positions before the disconnect. To gain access to the EGR Vacuum Regulator (EVR) solenoid users need to remove the eight intake manifold retainers and push the manifold slightly forwards. Next users disconnect the EVR solenoid vacuum and electrical connections and then disconnect the Knock Sensor (KS) electrical connector retainer. When installing the intake manifold complete the procedure in reverse order of removal.
