2002 Ford F-350 Super Duty Timing Cover Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the timing cover on 2002 Ford F-350 Super Duty?
A: Service operations on the timing cover begin with disconnecting the battery ground cable while extracting both valve covers, the radiator and the water pump. After supporting the vehicle you should unscrew the top bolts and the lower bolt to pull the power steering pump away from its position. First disconnect the CKP sensor connector and drain the engine oil through the drain plug while separate the four oil pan bolts prior to vehicle lowering. Separate the crankshaft front seal before breaking the electrical connection on the camshaft position (CMP) sensor. Commence by taking off the (A) bolt then the (B) belt idler pulley and proceed to unscrew the remaining bolts. It is essential to avoid the use of metal scrapers or abrasive tools to clean sealing surfaces when a plastic scraping tool must be used to eliminate old sealant. Insertions of the engine front cover from the front cover to cylinder block dowel and the engine front cover gasket must be followed by cleaning and evaluating the mating surfaces. First install the engine front cover gasket onto the engine front cover then apply silicone gasket and sealant over the cylinder head to cylinder block surface as well as the oil pan to cylinder block surface. Place the engine front cover gasket on the dowel before loosely installing its bolts and tighten the fasteners in two stages where you first secure fasteners 1 through 7 to 20 - 30 Nm (15 - 22 ft. lbs.) and afterwards fasten fasteners 6 through 15 to 40 - 55 Nm (30 - 41 ft. lbs.). Connect the CMP electrical connection and install a newly replaced front seal for the crankshaft. Put up the car once more to install bolts loosely before tightening the fasteners in two stages beginning at 20 Nm (15 ft. lbs.) then turning them by an additional 60 degrees. The crankshaft position sensor electrical connector should be connected before positioning the power steering pump (with a note that the front lower hole will not be utilized) then installing the bolts. The draining process should be followed by drain plug replacement while lowering the vehicle before restoring valve covers together with the water pump and the radiator. Complete the oil filling process of the engine then reattach the battery ground cable.
