2002 Ford Mustang Intake Manifold Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair an Intake Manifold for Upper on 2002 Ford Mustang?
A: Start the service and repair of the lower intake manifold by removing the battery ground cable. The service and repair of the lower intake manifold starts with engine air cleaner outlet tube removal followed by vacuum hose and Idle Air Control (IAC) solenoid detachment. Then disconnect the Throttle Position (TP) sensor and Evaporative Emissions (EVAP) return tube. First put aside the accelerator cable and speed control cable when present before taking out their retaining bolts and placing them and the bracket somewhere safe. ToRemove a safe work procedure begin with disconnecting the differential pressure feedback EGR transducer and Engine Vacuum Regulator (EGR) electrical connectors and push pins. The maintenance continues with separation of the Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) tube and ignition coil wires together with vacuum hoses and electrical connectors and spark plug wires and radio interference capacitor. Write down the positions of the long and short bolts before removing the upper intake manifold by unfastening its 12 bolts while discarding the existing gasket. Tighten the installation of new upper intake manifold gasket by following the bolt installation sequence that matches the original positions. The bolt tightening process should start at 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.) before continuing to a 90 degree rotation. Reinstall the vacuum hose together with ignition coil wiring then attach ignition coil electrical connector and radio interference capacitor and finally connect spark plug wires. You must now reconnect all vacuum hoses and PCV tubes along with attaching electrical connectors to the differential pressure feedback EGR transducer and Engine Vacuum Regulator (EGR) devices before pressing in the push pins. After installing the accelerator cable bracket bolts, use them to attach the cable, TP sensor and EVAP return tube. The repair ends by connecting the vacuum hose and IAC solenoid and reattaching the engine air cleaner outlet tube then securing the battery ground cable.
