2002 Ford Ranger Exhaust Manifold Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to service the exhaust manifold on 2002 Ford Ranger?
A: Service of the exhaust manifold begins with disconnecting the battery ground cable before lifting the vehicle on a hoist. Start by removing exhaust flange nuts then lower the vehicle before taking off the drive belt. The service requires emptying the cooling system water and cutting off both the upper radiator tube and engine reservoir hose. The next task requires removal of the A/C compressor while disconnecting the heater water hose. Remove the oil indicator tube assembly through the process of first extracting its upper bolt and tube assembly bolt. Climb the vehicle for further step completion after removal of the front radiator tube bolts. First lower the vehicle while removing the pushpins to expose the right inner fender splash shield and then disconnect the alternator connectors and remove the lower Front End Accessory Drive (FEAD) bolt fasteners. The upper mounting bolt together with the FEAD assembly leads to the extraction of the two coolant tube nuts. Initiate by removing exhaust nuts before the exhaust manifold followed by removing the exhaust manifold gasket. You must begin the installation process by adhering the new exhaust manifold gasket before fastening the exhaust manifold and its nuts. Position the coolant tube first and install the nuts before lifting or lowering the vehicle to work on the bolts. Start FEAD bracket bolt tightening by setting them to finger tightness followed by a torque of 47 Nm (35 ft. lbs.). The electrical taps to the alternator should be restored while the right inner splash shield is positioned and pushpins are installed before setting the vehicle down. Position the upper radiator tube first then bolt it before installing the oil indicator tube assembly and its lower bolt and completing with the upper bolt and the oil indicator. You must install the A/C compressor followed by heater water hose connection and upper radiator hose and engine reservoir hose installation. The cooling system should be filled then the drive belt is installed before raising the vehicle to complete exhaust flange nut installation followed by vehicle lowering and reconnecting the battery ground cable.
