2002 Ford Taurus Brake Booster Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the vacuum brake booster on 2002 Ford Taurus?
A: A correct start for vacuum brake booster servicing requires disconnecting the vehicle battery. Service and repairs of the vacuum brake booster start by disconnecting the Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor along with breather tubes while also removing the outlet tube from the throttle body. Put the engine air cleaner housing cover to the side after removal. Service to the vacuum brake booster begins with stripping off the wiper mounting arm and pivot shaft then the brake master cylinder. The operational unit of the speed control module should be positioned aside by removing the electrical connector and unfastening the nuts. Remove the manual control lever cable from its connection to the Transmission Range Sensor (TRS) followed by the removal of the manual cable bracket nut and its bolts before placing the bracket aside. Next disconnect the check valve after removing both the vacuum outlet manifold assembly from its position. After discarding the nut detach the heater hose retainer and guide the hose away from the work area without separating the electrical connector. The first step requires removing two bolts which will allow you to take off the steering column opening cover. To disconnect the push rod start by removing its electrical connector along with the push rod retainer before sliding the push rod off the pin then continue by disconnecting the stoplight switch and washer and bushing. You need to remove the brake booster after discarding all nuts. You must follow these steps to install the new brake booster but do the Brake Booster Flush Rod Adjustment while using fresh nuts for assembly.
