2003 Ford Taurus Brake Booster Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the vacuum brake booster on 2003 Ford Taurus?
A: Before performing any maintenance on the vacuum brake booster you need to disconnect the car battery. The next step includes removing the Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor along with its breather tubes before taking out the throttle body outlet tube. Pull out the engine air cleaner housing cover for subsequent placement on the side. You must start by taking away the wiper mounting arm and pivot shaft and brake master cylinder. Move the speed control module aside by taking out its electrical connector and unfastening the nuts. To continue the procedure you need to disconnect the manual control lever cable from the Transmission Range Sensor (TRS) and remove the manual cable bracket nut. Disassemble the bracket bolts from the manual cable bracket and put the bracket to one side. Detach both the vacuum outlet manifold assembly while also separating the check valve. The nut should be removed before the heater hose retainer can be detached and the hose should be repositioned out of reach. Disconnect the wiring harness retainers without removing the electrical connector at its end and place the harness away from the work area. First disconnect the push rod by taking off the electrical connector and removing the push rod retainer then sliding it off the pin. Also remove two bolts which secure the steering column opening cover. First disconnect the stoplight switch with the washer followed by the bushing before discarding the nuts to remove the brake booster. The installation of the new brake booster requires following the backward steps of removal while executing the Brake Booster Push Rod Adjustment and using fresh nuts.
