2002 Ford Thunderbird A/C Condenser Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the A/C condenser on 2002 Ford Thunderbird?
A: A leak test must precede removal when starting condenser servicing or repairs and suspecting leakage. A new receiver/drier demands installation only after the failure of an A/C compressor or damage to the receiver drier occurs. The first step is to recover refrigerant followed by disconnecting the air outlet tube which you should set aside. Start the procedure by taking out the upper radiator sight shield then unfasten the condenser inlet nut for disconnection. Take out the RH and LH upper condenser bracket pin-type retainers making a note that the LH retainer is illustrated even though the RH is identical. Start your procedure by raising and supporting the vehicle followed by unscrewing the air deflector screws and removing pin-type and side-clip retainers from their positions. First disconnect the condenser outlet fitting by removing the nut before extracting the LH bolt. Following the removal of the RH bolt and condenser core lowering support must be kept in place to avoid condenser core damage. The system installation requires the execution of removal steps in reverse order while using new O-ring seals that were prefilled with PAG oil and cleaning the refrigerant system with PAG oil at the correct volume.
