How to service the throttle body on those equipped with speed control on 2002 Mercury Cougar?

Vehicles with speed control need maintenance of the throttle body by removing the air cleaner outlet tube followed by the intake air resonator. Disembark the speed control cable from the throttle body and separate it from the bracket through the process of pushing the retaining clip then extracting the cable with gentle force. Disconnect and remove the accelerator cable retaining clip followed by removing the cable both from the bracket and throttle body components. Before taking out the throttle body assembly disconnect the throttle position sensor electrical connector then discard the old throttle body gasket. The throttle body requires no cleaning during installation because its natural coating needs preservation so install the new throttle body gasket by following the removal procedure opposite.
