2002 Mercury Cougar Intake Manifold Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service the intake manifold on 2002 Mercury Cougar?
A: Service of the intake manifold starts with removing the Air Cleaner outlet tube while disconnecting Throttle Position sensor, Idle Air Control sensor and engine control sensor wiring connectors. Remove the fuel supply manifold and detach the engine wiring harness by placing it to a side. Unplug the vacuum supply hoses from the intake manifold through the process of clutching the tabs while rotating the hoses and extracting them. Start by removing the quick-release coupling to disconnect the brake booster vacuum line and pulling out the line from its supply. Remove the fuel charging wiring then detach the accessory drive belt followed by the generator bolts before setting down the generator to one side. To complete this step remove the intake manifold by first taking out two nuts along with seven bolts and finally discard the manifold gasket. New intake manifold gasket installation should be followed by the reversed steps of removal.
