How to service and repair the throttle cable and linkage on 2002 Mercury Mountaineer?

In order to maintain the throttle cable, un-screw the screws on the accelerator control splash shield, de-connect the accelerator cable on throttle body and disconnect it on the bracket and retainers. Take the rubber plunge and cable of the accelerator pedal and pull the boot to unlock and remove. Installation is reversed.
