How to service and repair the throttle cable and linkage on Mercury Mountaineer?

Removing the screws attaching the accelerator control splash shield, disconnect throttle body and intake manifold cable, and accelerator pedal, is required to service throttle cable. Fold the clips at the dash panel and insert the cable through engine compartment. Installation is in reverse.

Accelerator cable and Bracket- To service the 4.0L SOHC accelerator cable and bracket, do the following steps in this order detach cable on the rubber plunger, push away, detach it on throttle body, squeeze tabs to detach on bracket and pull the boot. Installation is reversed.
