2003 Ford Escape Oil Pan Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the oil pan on 2003 Ford Escape?
A: Catalysts must be addressed by first moving the flexible exhaust pipes then breaking the connection of the downstream catalyst monitor sensor. The oil draining process completes by installing the drain plug before oil filter removal. You must first remove 15 bolts that secure the oil pan and then proceed to the three bolts fixing the oil pan. Bay surface cleaning during installation requires the use of a plastic scraping tool over metal scrapers or wire brushes and abrasive tools since these create harmful seals which may result in leaks. First cleanse every area on both the engine and oil pan with metal surface cleaner before you lay a fresh gasket onto the oil pan. The application of the sealant should happen immediately before the oil pan gets installed so its bolts get fastened within four minutes. Also necessary is using metal surface cleaner on all sealing surfaces before installation. A 10 mm (0.40 in.) diameter spot of silicone gasket and sealer requires application before positioning the oil pan together with its gasket and loosely installing the bolts according to sequence. Secure the bolts which connect the oil pan to the transaxle before tightening the oil pan bolts according to their installation sequence. Clean engine oil should be used to lubricate the O-ring of the oil filter before installing it. Put back the flexible exhaust pipe before reattaching the downstream catalyst monitor and lowering the vehicle while adding clean engine oil to the crankcase.
