2004 Ford Escape Oil Pan Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the oil pan on 2004 Ford Escape?
A: The first step for servicing the oil pan requires you to disconnect the flexible exhaust pipe and remove the downstream catalyst monitor sensor. First drain the oil before putting back the drain plug then dispose of the oil filter. You should first detach the oil pan with the 15 securing bolts then remove the three bolts which secure the oil pan. Before installing the new gasket users must clean all sealing areas on the engine and oil pan using a metal surface cleaner but should never employ metal scrapers or abrasive tools that might scratching to create leaks because they must use a plastic scraping instrument to completely remove head gasket remnants. The new gasket needs placement onto the oil pan after cleaning both sealing surfaces with the metal surface cleaner. The successful installation of the oil pan requires fitting the bolts within four minutes after applying sealant that consists of one dot with 10 mm (0.40 inch) diameter silicone gasket and sealer on specific areas. Install the pan and gasket before using the correct order to place loose bolts and then put on the pan-to-transaxle bolts. Install the oil filter after lubricating its O-ring with new engine oil then tighten the oil pan bolts through their specified installation order. The last steps include replacing the exhaust pipe followed by downstream catalyst monitor reconnection and vehicle lowering then forcing clean engine oil into the crankcase.
