2003 Lincoln LS Oil Pan Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the oil pan, oil pump, oil pump screen, and pickup tube on 2003 Lincoln LS?
A: First service and repair the oil pan and oil pump components by setting the vehicle on a hoist with neutral gear selection and engine oil extraction. Begin by removing the oil pan bolts from the left-hand side shown example while the right-hand side operations are similar. Next you should disassemble the lateral support bar after unfastering the bolts. The service of oil pump screen and pickup tube requires hand tools to unscrew their bolts until you can inspect the O-ring seal to determine if a replacement is needed. After taking off the timing drive components you should proceed to remove the bolts before discarding the gasket and the oil pump. A plastic scraping tool must be used on sealing surfaces for cleaning because scratches from metal tools could create leaks. Apply new gasket material on the pump before tightening the bolts first to 6 Nm (53 inch lbs.) and continuing with an additional 90-degree turn. After installing the timing drive components you should apply engine oil to the O-ring seal before putting on the oil pump screen and pickup tube. The correct installation of an oil pan requires gasket sealing surfaces to be clean and dry before putting on the new oil pan gasket and attaching the oil pan. All bolts must be torqued in sequence to 5 Nm (44 inch lbs.) followed by 12 Nm (9 ft. lbs.). Start by using the lateral support bars to position their placement on the unit before tightening their bolts and afterward tightening the remaining bolts in sequence. The crankcase requires a filling with clean engine oil as the final step.
