2004 Ford E-250 Intake Manifold Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the intake manifold on a 5.4L engine on 2004 Ford E-250?
A: The service and repair of 5.4L intake manifold starts with disconnecting the ground cable and removing the interior engine cover. Service of the 5.4L intake manifold begins with disconnecting the fuel hose spring lock couplings and the draining of the cooling system. Remove the four bolts from the engine air cleaner (ACL) before loosening its clamp and moving the device to reach the mass airflow (MAF) sensor electrical connector. To access the MAF sensor and ACL for removal the technician must first disconnect its connector then remove the ACL next disconnect two hoses and loosen the clamp to take off the air cleaner outlet pipe. During the repair process start by removing the accelerator cable snow shield then disconnect the throttle body controls by taking off the accelerator cable and speed control actuator cable and removing the throttle return spring. The hose clamp requires compression to detach the upper radiator hose and the technician must remove two coolant hoses alongside the throttle position (TP) sensor by disconnecting its electrical connector while detaching the harness routing clip. The EGR differential pressure feedback exhaust gas recirculation system requires disconnecting the electrical connector and two hoses followed by removing the bracket bolt. Detach the generator upper support bracket bolts followed by transmission fluid filler tube support bracket bolt before setting aside the accelerator cable bracket along with its cables by removing their corresponding bolts. The procedure requires disconnecting and stowing away auxiliary heater hoses whenever they exist. Proceed with removing the idle air control (IAC) valve fresh air hose and evaporative emission canister purge valve hose and vacuum hose before unbolt the valve with its two nuts to set aside for service. Unplug the fuel pressure sensor vacuum hose together with its electrical connection and disconnect both EGR vacuum regulator solenoid connections while also removing the EGR valve vacuum hose and the IAC valve electrical connector. First detach the brake booster and main engine vacuum harness and proceed to detach the differential pressure feedback EGR sensor hoses from the EGR valve. Both lower and upper fittings on the exhaust manifold-to-EGR valve tube must be detached to perform the removal. The throttle body assembly can be taken from service using four bolts to uninstall while discarding its gasket. The technician should disconnect the positive crankcase ventilation hose followed by removal of the ignition coil electrical connectors and fuel injector electrical connectors. Start by unscrewing the eight bolts maintaining ignition coils after removing the bolts that secure both thermostat housing and thermostat whilst detaching O-ring seal. The last step involves removing the nine bolts from the intake manifold before extracting it across the assessment of the throttle body and intake manifold for any damage. Discard the intake manifold gaskets along with the inspection of all sealing surfaces before you finish.
