2004 Ford E-250 Vehicle Speed Sensor Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service the Vehicle Speed Sensor for the Turbine Shaft and Intermediate Shaft on 2004 Ford E-250?
A: The first step to service the turbine shaft speed (TSS) sensor along with the intermediate shaft speed sensor requires the vehicle to be in neutral position on a hoist. The job requires a suitable high-lift transmission jack for holding the transmission in position. Pull both wire harness retainers from the rear crossmember before moving the harness to the side. Start by removing LH crossmember nuts before taking out the LH crossmember bracket then proceed to the RH side by removing the RH crossmember nuts followed by the RH crossmember bracket. Lower the transmission enough to reach the TSS and intermediate speed sensors on the shaft. Use a clean environment to disconnect the speed sensor connector for both intermediate shaft and turbine shaft then secure the area around the sensor. Stiffening the bolt allows you to extract the combination speed sensor. The O-ring needs lubrication prior to fitting the combination speed sensor with its bolt for securing. Install the sensor electrical connector before you return the transmission and crossmember to their proper position. The penultimate step involves putting in place the LH crossmember bracket followed by installing the nuts. After that, the RH crossmember bracket along with its nuts gets installed. Reinstall the wire harness by placing its two retaining clips at the rear side of the crossmember.
