• Q: How to service and repair the upper intake manifold on 2004 Ford Escape?

  A: Start the upper intake manifold service by disconnecting the air cleaner outlet tube and crankcase ventilation tube followed by clamp loosening of the throttle cable before disconnecting it and speed control cable if equipped. Lastly remove throttle cable bracket bolts. The service of upper intake manifold begins with disconnecting the throttle position (TP) sensor and idle air control (IAC) electrical connectors, the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) valve vacuum hose and EGR tube nut, the EGR vacuum regulator solenoid electrical connector and vacuum hose, and the three vacuum hoses at the rear of the intake manifold which include the chassis vacuum hose, engine vacuum hose, and positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) hose. Prior to removal disconnect the vapor management valve (VMV) vacuum hose together with the two electrical connectors situated on the left side of the upper intake manifold and the power steering pressure (PSP) sensor electrical connector. Start by removing the bolt for directing the transmission vent hose and bracket aside before removing the wire harness nut and eight bolts holding the upper intake manifold in place through which time you should discard the gaskets and clean all surfaces that encounter sealing. New gaskets should be installed inside the upper intake manifold before the installation steps begin. To complete the installation of cables the throttle cable bracket bolts must be installed while connecting the throttle cable and if applicable the speed control cable.
