2004 Ford Expedition Ignition Lock Cylinder Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to Remove and Replace a Non-Functional Ignition Lock Cylinder on 2004 Ford Expedition?
A: Service of an ignition lock cylinder begins with disconnecting the battery ground cable and waiting for at least one minute. Start by removing the steering wheel then disconnect the screws that attach the steering column cover. The PATS transceiver electrical connector needs disconnection before removing the bolt and the PATS transceiver. Use 1/8-inch and 3/8-inch diameter drill bits to break loose the ignition lock cylinder through drilling into the lock cylinder retaining pin and the key slot until the cylinder releases. Get rid of the ignition lock cylinder while also discarding all drill powder from the steering column. Reposition the bearing retainer while you also remove the steering column lock housing bearing along with the steering column lock gear complete with complete clearing of drill shavings from the steering column followed by checking for any damage. Establish success by following the reverse procedure to install a new ignition lock cylinder while ensuring proper operation of the ignition switch lock cylinder.
