2004 Mercury Marauder Intake Manifold Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the lower intake manifold on 2004 Mercury Marauder?
A: Service and maintenance of the lower intake manifold starts by emptying the engine cooling system followed by upper intake manifold removal. The technician must unfasten the fuel line spring lock coupling and the Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor electrical connectors before disconnecting coolant hoses and wiring harness retainer and electrical connectors. First disconnect the accessory drive belt before moving to the generator support bracket bolts then remove the crossover tube. The next step involves removing the bolts followed by the generator and eliminating the fuel pressure sensor vacuum hose and electrical connector and disassociating the wiring harness from four specific fuel injection supply manifold studs. To detach the fuel charging wiring harness from the rear you need to disconnect the eight fuel injector electrical connectors followed by removing the specified ten bolts then slightly raising the lower intake manifold. Separate the manifold then extract all existing gaskets while conducting cleaning tests on the manifold sealing surfaces. New lower intake manifold gaskets must be installed by examining them for replacement if needed before fastening the intake manifold following a precise tightening sequence. The fuel charging wiring harness should be connected first to the rear of the lower intake manifold before proceeding with eight fuel injector electrical connections. The fuel charging wiring needs proper positioning before connecting it to the fuel injection supply manifold at four designated locations and connecting both the electrical connector and vacuum hose to the fuel pressure sensor. Install the generator and its bolts before placing the crossover tube into position. Perform O-ring seal inspection and replace them if required. After the support bracket installation you must add four bolts to the generator system before attaching the accessory drive belt. After successful hose and electrical connector and wiring harness retainer installation begin connecting the ECT sensor electrical connectors along with coolant hoses. The procedure ends with connecting the fuel hose spring lock coupling while installing the upper intake manifold followed by engine cooling system filling and bleeding procedures.
