2004 Mercury Marauder Intake Manifold Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service the upper intake manifold on 2004 Mercury Marauder?
A: Service of the upper intake manifold begins with draining part of the cooling system while disconnecting the battery ground cable. The first step is to remove the air cleaner outlet pipe together with the accelerator control splash shield. First disconnect the accelerator cable followed by the speed control cable together with the return spring then remove the fuel vapor hose. Unfasten the accelerator control cable from its bracket followed by the speed control cable and vacuum hose removal from their attachment points. You can disconnect the acceleration control cables by removing their respective bolt before setting them aside while also removing the bracket and bolt. The technician disconnects tubes and connectors used in Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) and Throttle Position (TP) sensor and Idle Air Control (IAC) sensor systems as well as the Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PVC) tube and EGR system module electrical connector. The process requires disconnecting all vacuum hoses together with the PCV coolant hoses. The upper intake manifold assembly bolts need removal through specified order which allows safe extraction of the intake manifold assembly while you clean its sealing surfaces. New upper intake manifold gaskets should be positioned before installing the upper intake manifold assembly and its bolts in an ordered sequence. Reinstall the vacuum hoses together with PCV coolant hoses and EGR system module electrical connector and PVC tube. First connect the electrical cords of the TP sensor and IAC sensor and afterward reconnect the EGR system module tube. Position the bracket and bolt after which you should connect acceleration control cables together with the vacuum hose. The service technician should reinstall the accelerator control cables while also installing the fuel vapor hose and accelerator cable and speed control cable with the return spring. Reinstallation of the accelerator control splash shield comes after reconnecting the battery ground cable and filling and bleeding the cooling system partially.
