2005 Ford E-150 Transmission Pan Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair the TorqShift Transmission Pan, Gasket, and Filter on 2005 Ford E-150?
A: Before servicing the TorqShift fluid pan and gasket along with the filter the vehicle must be placed on a hoist while in neutral position. First drain transmission fluid using the drain plug before you remove the fluid pan together with the gasket and finally take out the transmission fluid filter. You should remove the filter seal with careful movements to prevent damaging the seal bore which might result in transmission failure. Check for the seal inside the bore and remove it before continuing. Installation of the new fluid filter and seal assembly must start after confirmation of complete old seal removal. The installation of fluid pan and gasket and pan bolts requires crosswise tightening of the bolts. The transmission should receive 7.0 liters (7.5 quarts) of clean automatic transmission fluid through the filler tube while the transmission fluid drain plug must be secured. Check for transmission shifts while the engine is running by moving the transmission range selector through every gear range. To measure the fluid properly run the engine while the transmission maintains a normal 66-77°C (150-170°F) operating temperature by using 0.24-liter (0.5-pint) increments until the correct level is achieved so the fluid stays in the cross-hatched area on the fluid level indicator. The specified transmission fluid must be used for prevention of operational failure or breakdown.
