2005 Ford E-250 Battery Cable Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service the primary battery cables on 2005 Ford E-250?
A: Service on the primary battery cables requires potential disablement of vehicle electrical power to avoid damage. The first step for primary battery cable servicing includes disconnecting the positive cable and removing both the wedge and primary battery. First detach the four bolts holding the battery tray and then extract the tray. First disconnect the negative cable ground nut of the primary battery then disengage its eyelet terminal. Use a screwdriver to remove the rubber cap from the starter motor relay B+ terminal before taking off the eyelet terminals by first unscrewing the B+ terminal nut and secondly unscrewing the enable terminal nut. Continue by removing the three harness locators between primary battery tray mounts and then take out the starter motor/solenoid eyelet terminals by uninstalling their B+ terminal nut and their enable terminal nut and their ground terminal nut. The three plastic engine splash shield clips need to be unfastened before removing the shield. To perform this step the transmission cooler line/primary battery cable bracket nut needs removal before extracting the primary battery cable assembly through the engine support crossmember underneath the vehicle. The harness locator below the battery tray mounts should be disengaged while pulling the primary battery cable assembly out of the engine compartment through the vehicle. You should reverse the removal steps for installation and properly reattach the battery to prevent failures with vehicle components or structure. The alternative control module will show abnormal driving behavior before it learns its adaptive procedure and this process may need several kilometers of driving distance exceeding ten miles.
