Before working on the thermostat housing of a 2.3L engine you must position the vehicle in neutral on a hoist. Start by emptying the cooling system and then remove the accessory drive belt from the vehicle. You should disconnect both the heater hose and the lower radiator hose attached at the thermostat housing. Completely detach the thermostat housing and gasket via the three securing bolts. For the new assembly installation tighten bolts to 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.) while performing the reversal of removal steps. Before refilling and bleeding the cooling system, inspect and clean the gasket while replacing it if needed.
