2005 Ford Expedition Starter Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the starter motor on 2005 Ford Expedition?
A: Start procedures for starter motor maintenance should be initiated by placing the vehicle in neutral position on a hoist. First disconnect the battery ground cable then remove the starter terminal cover followed by unfastening S terminal electrical connection on the solenoid before reassembly. Normal torque to 6 Nm (53 lb-in) must be applied to this component. So you must disassemble the nut and solenoid B terminal electrical connection and tighten it to 12 Nm (9 lb-ft) while mounting it. The starter battery ground cable must have its securing nut removed from the stud at a torque level of 20 Nm (15 lb-ft) while reinstalling. SAE J2534 states that installation of the starter motor requires a torque of 25 Nm (18 lb-ft) on both bolts and stud bolt. The installation should be finished by tightening the starter fasteners by hand initially and then proceeding to the upper and lower fastener tightening before completion. After maintenance you must install protective caps since they protect you from injuries.
