2006 Ford Expedition Starter Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the starter motor on 2006 Ford Expedition?
A: Services and repairs of the starter motor should start by placing the vehicle in neutral position on a hoist. Start by detaching the ground cable from the battery then remove the starter terminal cover. Start the solenoid S-terminal electrical connection detachment by taking out the nut before moving onto the solenoid B-terminal electrical connection and its nut. Begin by removing the stud-mounted starter battery ground cable nut and proceeding to take out the starter motor and two bolts along with the stud bolt. Install the starter by fitting its two bolts and stud bolt in three separate steps that commence with light tightening followed by an upper bolt torque to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft) then proceed to tighten the lower bolt and stud bolt to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft). The starter battery ground cable needs attachment to the stud where a nut should secure it with 20 Nm tension (15 lb-ft). Fasten and tighten the solenoid B terminal electrical connection by using a nut to 12 Nm (9 lb-ft). Secure the solenoid S terminal electrical connection before installing its nut then replace the starter terminal cover with 6 Nm (53 lb-in) torque. The completion step includes reinstalling the battery ground cable.
