2005 Ford Explorer Automatic Transmission Shifter Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the Automatic Transmission Shifter on 2005 Ford Explorer?
A: The service and repair of transmission selector lever begins by placing the vehicle in PARK while using a hoist. The service begins with unscrewing the lower steering column opening finish panel screws then moving on to remove the lower steering column shroud screws. The first step should be to remove the steering column shroud upper retaining screw from the steering column before you can take away the upper steering column shroud. Prior to putting in the transmission selector lever one must install a fresh transmission selector lever pin. The Transmission Control Switch (TCS) requires its electrical connector to be disconnected and the transmission selector lever pin must be removed along with the old pin before extracting the transmission selector lever. Execution of the installation requires performing the removal steps in reverse order followed by TCS operational verification.
