How to service and repair the intermediate parking brake cable on 2005 Ford Five Hundred?

A necessary first step when servicing or repairing the intermediate parking brake cable is to reduce parking brake cable tension. First disconnect the parking brake cable tension. Then detach the three bracket bolts from the subframe by using a 12 Nm (9 ft. lbs.) torque after reinstalling them. Detach the intermediate cable from its connection point with the front cable at the cable-to-cable union before freeing the cable from both the body bracket and rear right cable at the second cable-to-cable union. You should release the LH rear cable from its position on the intermediate cable conduit equalizer. Keep RH subframe bolts loose without removal while using a suitable screw jack stand to support the LH side of the subframe and take out both LH subframe bolts. The screw jack stand should be used to vertically lower the LH subframe side 120 mm (4.72 inches) before removing the wireform bracket bolt for extraction of the intermediate parking brake cable that needs a torque setting of 18 Nm (13 ft. lbs.) during installation. You should complete the procedure in reverse before checking the parking brake system to verify its proper function.
