2005 Ford Freestar Brake Booster Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service the vacuum brake booster on 2005 Ford Freestar?
A: Service of the vacuum brake booster starts with master cylinder removal. The throttle body first requires coupling removal of the speed control and accelerator cables followed by detachment of the wiring harness retaining bracket. The nut and bolt from the accelerator cable bracket must be removed before setting aside the speed control and accelerator cable bracket and securing this assembly with a torque of 15 Nm (11 ft. lbs.). The speed control actuator requires removal of both its bolts that need to reach 10 Nm of torque (89 inch lbs.) for proper installation. Take off the brake booster vacuum hose from the brake booster vacuum check valve before removing both the redundant self-locking clip cover along with the self-locking clip from the brake pedal. The brake pedal requires removal of its brake pedal position switch together with booster rod and bushing while four brake booster nuts must be tightened to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.) during reassembly. To finish the task remove the brake booster from the vehicle and reinstall it following the reverse order of removal.
